I hate my life
I hate everything about being me right now. As many of you know, I am a type 1 diabetic, this means I require insulin to live, insulin I was planning on eventually giving myself through an insulin pump so that I could keep running marathons and half marathons and actually live a decently normal life. This is no longer an option for me as my insurance requires a 5000 dollar deductible and I cannot afford it. This means I will have to live my life on a rigid schedule and must give up my marathons. This means I lose everything that has ever been fun as you can't make things happen on a time table and that I must stop working at night as I can no longer flip from nights to days for doctors appointments. In short the damn disease wins and I lose everything.

Hi There,
Deep breath, it will be ok. The one thing that I have learned is that you can outwit the insurance companies given time. Make sure you check to see if you get an in-network discount on a specific brand of pump. That's a start, then call the pump company and see what sort of financial assistance they offer and if there is a local sales rep. in your area. The sales reps are more than helpful at trying to do what's best for you. They are paid salary not commission and it's there job to help you and they do! I've been going rounds with my insurance company for 1.5 years now trying to get everything sorted out. Be tenacious and insistent on getting it done. It will happen you can do it! Hang in there and good luck with your running!
Mike
Thanks, sometimes I stress to much, but I appreciate that someone is at least listening.
I'm sorry you were so frustrated, Wendy. As Mike said, take a deep breath! The pump may not happen right away, but I have confidence that you will get one at some point - if not now, then in the future with a different insurance company. Working during the day isn't a bad thing either. In the long run that will be much healthier for you. And if you find a job with a different company, maybe you'll get insurance that covers the pump. I have faith that it will work out!
